The television service industry is in turmoil. Ever decreasing prices of goods (TVs, VCRs, DVD players), along with ever increasing costs of doing business, (insurance, rent, yellow page advertising) has the TV repair industry in a downward spiral.
Manufacturers lower the prices of goods, increase the prices of parts, or even refuse to make parts or literature available. This effects the consumers-the owners of TVs and other equipment, by making products disposable. It is often difficult for TV owners to understand why their product costs so much to fix, or why it takes so long. In addition, consumers who have purchased a product, such as an HDTV, which fails within the warranty period, often have to wait months for the manufacturer to supply parts.

The following three articles are on the United Servicers Association Website. The United Servicers Association's purpose is "To develop and provide services and programs intended to assist members in building strong businesses for the purpose of competing successfully in North America's competitive environment." Although these articles were written expressly about household appliance service issues, they are virtually indistinguishable from the Consumer Electronics repair industry.
